Product Overview

Learn what Lumify is, how it works, and why businesses choose our AI-powered answers engine.

What is Lumify?

Lumify is an AI-powered answers engine that delivers instant, accurate responses to visitor questions using your website's own content.

Unlike traditional search that returns a list of links, Lumify provides direct answers grounded in your content. It automatically crawls and indexes your website, then uses advanced AI to understand questions and retrieve the most relevant information.

Lumify works with any website and can be integrated via a simple JavaScript snippet or API. It's designed for businesses that want to improve customer self-service, reduce support tickets, and enhance the user experience.

How does Lumify generate fast, accurate answers?

Lumify blends known answers, vector recall, and fresh web search to provide fast, grounded responses in under 2 seconds.

Our answer pipeline uses a cascade approach:

  1. Known Answers: First, we check our database of pre-seeded Q&A pairs for an exact or near-exact match.
  2. Vector Search: If no match exists, we use semantic vector search to find the most relevant content from your indexed pages.
  3. AI Synthesis: The retrieved content is processed by our AI to generate a coherent, accurate answer.
  4. Grounding: Every answer includes citations back to the source pages on your website.

This approach ensures high accuracy while maintaining fast response times, typically under 2 seconds for most queries.

Who is Lumify designed for?

Lumify is built for businesses with content-rich websites who want to help visitors find answers instantly.

Lumify works best for:

  • SaaS Companies: Product documentation and help centers
  • Customer Support Teams: Reduce ticket volume with self-service answers
  • Developer Documentation: API references and technical guides
  • Knowledge Bases: Internal and external wikis
  • B2B Websites: Complex product catalogs and service information
  • Educational Platforms: Course materials and FAQs

If your website has valuable content that visitors search for, Lumify can help surface it instantly.

How is Lumify different from a chatbot?

Lumify provides factual answers from your content, while chatbots often generate responses that may not be grounded in your specific information.

Key differences:

  • Grounded in your content: Every Lumify answer comes from your indexed pages, with citations.
  • No hallucinations: We only answer what we can verify from your content.
  • Search-first experience: Users ask a question and get an answer, not a conversation.
  • Easy setup: No training or conversation flows required—just point to your website.

Think of Lumify as a smarter search box that actually answers questions, rather than a chat interface that might make things up.

What technical requirements are needed?

Lumify works with any website. You only need the ability to add a JavaScript snippet or make API calls.

There are no special server requirements. Lumify is a cloud service that works with:

  • Any CMS (WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, etc.)
  • Static sites (Next.js, Gatsby, Hugo, etc.)
  • Custom applications (via REST API)

For the widget integration, you just need to paste a single script tag. For API integration, any language that can make HTTP requests will work.

How long does indexing take?

Most websites are fully indexed within 10-30 minutes. Larger sites with thousands of pages may take up to a few hours.

The indexing process includes:

  1. URL Discovery: We crawl your sitemap and internal links to find all pages.
  2. Content Extraction: We extract and clean the text content from each page.
  3. Vector Generation: Content is processed into semantic vectors for search.
  4. Optimization: We generate common Q&A pairs based on your content.

You can monitor progress in real-time from your dashboard. Pages become searchable as soon as they're indexed.

Search & Q&A Behavior

Understand how Lumify processes questions and delivers accurate, grounded answers.

How accurate are Lumify's answers?

Lumify achieves high accuracy by grounding all answers in your actual content, with citations for verification.

Our accuracy is maintained through several mechanisms:

  • Content grounding: Answers only come from your indexed pages, never fabricated.
  • Confidence thresholds: Low-confidence answers are flagged or not shown.
  • Source citations: Users can verify answers by clicking through to source pages.
  • Continuous learning: You can review and improve answers over time.

If Lumify can't find a confident answer in your content, it will indicate that rather than guessing.

What happens when Lumify can't find an answer?

Lumify gracefully handles questions it can't answer by suggesting related content or directing users to support channels.

When an answer isn't found, Lumify can:

  • Show related topics or pages that might help
  • Display a customizable "no results" message
  • Offer a link to contact support
  • Log the query for your review (so you can add content to address common gaps)

This approach is better than providing a made-up answer, as it maintains trust and helps you identify content gaps.

How fast are responses?

Most answers are delivered in under 2 seconds, with an average response time of 1.2 seconds.

Speed is critical for user experience, so we've optimized every step:

  • Known answers: Instant (50-100ms) when we have a pre-cached response
  • Vector search: Fast semantic matching (200-500ms)
  • AI synthesis: Full AI-generated answers (1-2 seconds)

We also support streaming responses, so users see the answer being generated in real-time.

Does Lumify support multiple languages?

Yes. Lumify supports content and queries in over 50 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, and more.

Our AI models are trained on multilingual data, which means:

  • Content in any supported language is indexed correctly
  • Users can ask questions in their preferred language
  • Answers are generated in the language of the source content

For sites with content in multiple languages, we recommend setting up separate applications for each language to ensure the best results.

Data Ingestion & Indexing

Learn how Lumify crawls, extracts, and indexes your website content.

What content does Lumify index?

Lumify indexes all publicly accessible text content on your website, including pages, articles, documentation, and FAQs.

By default, we index:

  • All HTML pages linked from your sitemap or homepage
  • Text content from headings, paragraphs, lists, and tables
  • Meta descriptions and page titles

We do not index:

  • Password-protected or login-required pages
  • PDF files (coming soon)
  • Images and videos (text alternatives are indexed)

You can exclude specific pages or sections using our dashboard settings.

How often is my content re-indexed?

Lumify automatically re-crawls your website weekly. You can also trigger manual re-indexing at any time.

Content freshness options:

  • Automatic weekly crawls: Included in all plans
  • Manual refresh: Re-index individual pages or your entire site on-demand
  • Webhook integration: Trigger re-indexing when you publish new content (API required)

Higher-tier plans include more frequent automatic crawls (daily for Growth and Enterprise).

Can I exclude certain pages from indexing?

Yes. You can exclude pages by URL pattern, add specific URLs to a blocklist, or use robots.txt directives.

Exclusion methods:

  • Dashboard settings: Add URL patterns to exclude (e.g., /admin/*, /private/*)
  • Robots.txt: We respect standard robots.txt directives for Lumify's crawler
  • Meta tags: Pages with "noindex" meta tags are skipped

This is useful for excluding staging content, internal documentation, or outdated pages.

Deployment & Integration

Integrate Lumify into your website or application using our widget or API.

What integration options are available?

Lumify offers a JavaScript widget for quick setup and a REST API for custom integrations.

Integration methods:

  • JavaScript Widget: Add a single script tag to get a search interface on your site in minutes.
  • REST API: Full control over the query and response for custom UIs, chatbots, or internal tools.
  • Streaming API: Real-time streaming responses for chat-like experiences.

Both methods use API keys for authentication. You can generate and manage keys from your dashboard.

Does Lumify integrate with my CMS?

Lumify works with any CMS that allows adding custom JavaScript, including WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, and more.

Since Lumify indexes your public pages and integrates via JavaScript, it's compatible with virtually any platform:

  • WordPress (via plugin or custom code)
  • Webflow (via custom code embed)
  • Squarespace (via code injection)
  • Shopify (via theme customization)
  • Any static site generator or custom application

No special connectors are needed—if you can add a script tag, you can use Lumify.

What are the API rate limits?

Rate limits depend on your plan, ranging from 10 requests/minute on the free trial to 60+ requests/minute on Growth plans.

Rate limits by plan:

  • Free Trial: 10 requests/minute
  • Hobby: 30 requests/minute
  • Standard: 30 requests/minute
  • Growth: 60 requests/minute
  • Enterprise: Custom limits

If you need higher limits, contact our sales team to discuss enterprise options.

Pricing & Billing

Understand Lumify's credit-based pricing, billing cycles, and how to manage your subscription.

What is a credit?

One credit equals one AI search query. Each search returns a complete answer with citations from your website content.

Credits are consumed when:

  • A user submits a search query via the widget
  • You make an API call to the search endpoint

Credits are not consumed for:

  • Dashboard access and analytics
  • Content indexing and re-crawls
  • Viewing or editing your applications
Do unused credits roll over?

No, credits reset at the start of each billing cycle. We recommend choosing a plan that matches your typical monthly usage.

Monthly credits expire at the end of each billing period. If you consistently have unused credits, consider downgrading to a smaller plan.

If you exceed your credits, you can purchase additional credit packs or enable auto-recharge to avoid service interruption.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately, and downgrades apply at the start of your next billing cycle.

To change your plan:

  1. Go to your Account settings in the dashboard
  2. Select "Billing" and choose a new plan
  3. Confirm the change

When upgrading, you'll receive prorated credits for the remainder of your billing period. When downgrading, the new limits apply after your current period ends.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and support invoice billing for enterprise customers.

Payments are processed securely through Stripe. For enterprise customers with annual commitments, we also offer:

  • Bank transfers / ACH
  • Invoice billing with NET 30 terms
  • PO-based procurement

Troubleshooting & Support

Get help with common issues and learn how to reach our support team.

How do I contact support?

You can reach our support team via email at support@lumify.ai or through the contact form on our website.

Support options by plan:

  • Free Trial & Hobby: Email support (response within 1-2 business days)
  • Standard: Priority email support (response within 1 business day)
  • Growth: Priority support with faster response times
  • Enterprise: Dedicated account manager and SLA-backed support

Visit our Contact page to reach out.

Why aren't some of my pages being indexed?

Pages may be missing due to robots.txt blocks, noindex tags, login requirements, or not being linked from discoverable pages.

Common reasons pages aren't indexed:

  • Robots.txt: Your robots.txt may be blocking our crawler
  • Noindex meta tag: Pages with noindex are intentionally skipped
  • Login required: We can only index publicly accessible content
  • Not linked: Pages must be reachable via sitemap or internal links
  • JavaScript-rendered: Some dynamic content may not be captured

Check the Pages section in your dashboard to see which URLs were discovered and their indexing status.

What if Lumify gives an incorrect answer?

You can review and improve answers directly from your dashboard. Submit corrections and they'll be used for future queries.

To address incorrect answers:

  1. Go to the Answers section in your dashboard
  2. Find the problematic Q&A pair
  3. Edit the answer or mark it for review
  4. Optionally, add a custom answer that will be used instead

If the issue is with missing or incorrect source content, update your website and trigger a re-index. The improved content will produce better answers.
